24/7 Emergency Services

Hurricane season in Tampa, Florida, and the rest of the Atlantic coast of the United States is from June to November. Unfortunately, forecasters are already predicting strong storms. It’s always a good idea to keep an emergency kit in case there’s a severe storm or another problem this year. An emergency kit can help keep you and your family comfortable if you have to leave suddenly or if utilities like power and water are interrupted. Here are some of the items your family might need in an emergency.

Food and Water

If roads are blocked by debris, getting groceries could be difficult. Store enough food and water to last for at least three days. Don’t forget to add some extra pet food and some comfort food like candy bars. You should also add some paper towels or moist wipes to keep your hands clean.

First Aid

You can buy a simple first aid kit at many drug stores and grocery stores, or make your own version. Your first aid kit should include disinfectant, bandages, over-the-counter pain medication, a few extra blankets, any prescription medicine that you or your family members take regularly, and gloves to prevent infection.

Other Tools and Supplies

You’ll need a few flashlights, headlamps, or battery-powered lanterns, along with entertainment items like toys and books. Also, pack some extra toiletries along with a few changes of clothes, your cell phone charging cord, any medicines family members take, and some extra batteries. Store your essential documents in a safe deposit box and keep any copies in a watertight container. After a hurricane or another emergency, you could also need a pair of work gloves, duct tape, and some plastic sheeting to prevent more damage until a professional can make repairs.
